Who can apply for support?

At Thank YOU South Africa (TYSA), we believe that every African child deserves the chance to learn, to grow, and to thrive — regardless of their background, legal status, or life circumstances. Rooted in the spirit of Ubuntu — "I am because we are" — our support is guided by empathy, inclusion, and shared responsibility.

TYSA offers funding and holistic support primarily to:

  • Children and youth currently residing in South Africa, including foreign nationals, migrants, asylum seekers, and stateless children.
  • South African nationals living abroad who face educational barriers due to socio-economic or legal challenges.

Our goal is to uplift those who show resilience and promise but are held back by circumstances beyond their control.

You may be eligible if you:

  • ✅ Require assistance with school fees, uniforms, learning materials, or access to technology for remote learning
  • ✅ Need help with career guidance, mentorship, or access to post-school opportunities
  • ✅ Lack legal documentation such as a birth certificate, study permit, refugee/asylum papers, or other forms of identification
  • ✅ Show academic potential and motivation but face economic hardship, displacement, or legal barriers
  • ✅ Are in transitional phases such as entering Grade R or preparing for life after Grade 12, and need bridging support

How to apply:

Eligible applicants may apply by completing our application form, available on our website or through selected partner schools, community centres, and faith-based networks.

Each application is reviewed with care by a dedicated panel that considers financial need, potential for impact, and alignment with TYSA’s values. We aim to ensure no child is left unseen or unheard.

If you do not qualify:

Even if your application does not meet our current criteria, you are still part of our community. TYSA will, wherever possible, refer you to trusted partner organizations, public services, or support networks who may be able to assist.

We also encourage you to stay connected through our Ubuntu Circle — a growing community where individuals can engage through mentorship, youth forums, volunteering, and healing spaces for young people.

You matter. You belong. And you are not alone.
